Jo Academy, a pioneering Education Technology (EdTech) platform based in Jordan, has successfully closed a USD 28 million funding round led by a syndicate of Jordanian and Saudi Arabian private equity funds. The round was anchored by the Jordan Capital and Investment Fund (JCIF) and the Saudi-based Rua Growth Fund in Riyadh. Foursan Group also completed a follow-on investment in the company, having been an early investor in Jo Academy.
Founded in 2014, Jo Academy has revolutionized Jordan’s educational landscape by creating a subscription-based online marketplace that connects students with qualified teachers. The platform offers interactive, affordable access to high-quality educational content for Tawjihi students and beyond, capturing over 35% of the Tawjihi student market in the Kingdom.
By bridging the gap between students and exceptional educators, Jo Academy is committed to empowering the next generation of learners in Jordan and across the region. “Our strategic focus has always been on delivering exceptional educational value,” said Ala’ Jarrar, co-founder and CEO of Jo Academy. “This investment will enable us to enhance our technology and expand our market presence, not only in Jordan but also in Saudi Arabia. We are excited to launch the region’s first Generative AI-powered EdTech platform to personalize learning experiences and set new standards in educational innovation.”
The funding will be allocated toward technology and content development, driving Jo Academy’s expansion into Saudi Arabia, and launching its AI-powered EdTech platform. The company plans to integrate cutting-edge features such as AI Adaptive Learning, augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), and the establishment of virtual schools to meet the varying needs of educational systems across the region. Jo Academy also aims to extend its product offerings in Saudi Arabia by partnering with leading educational institutions.
“With a commitment to maintaining Jordan as a central tech hub, Jo Academy’s plans will not only bolster its position in the EdTech market but also create over 100 highly skilled job opportunities, contributing to the socioeconomic development of Jordan and the region,” said Hani Qadi, Chairman of JCIF.
Jo Academy is backed by an experienced management team dedicated to seamlessly integrating educational content with technological infrastructure, ensuring a top-notch learning experience for users. “The company has established itself as a leader in the EdTech space, known for providing tailored learning experiences and content creation that meet the diverse educational needs of students,” said Faris Sharaf, CEO of JCIF. “Jo Academy is poised for an exciting journey ahead as it continues to innovate and expand, reinforcing its role as a champion of EdTech in Jordan and the wider region.”
